Grow Green Itsuseng is a team of twelve young individuals who are united with the passion of working in an underprivileged community. Our vision is to achieve a high level of food production, income generation and self sustainability through establishing vegetable gardens in underprivileged communities. It all started in November 2008 when three students decided to start a vegetable gardening project in a community known as Itsuseng. Grow green Itsuseng mission is to create a healthy and secure community through vegetable gardening. The mission of the project was based on the interviews and need identification process conducted in the community. From the interviews, we indentified the shortage of a balanced diet meal and most of the community members depended on packaged foods from donations. This inspired us to start a sustainable project that will supplement the diet in their food. In the first year, despite various challenges such as shortage of water and uncooperative stance of the community members, the team was able to establish a small community garden in which we planted carrots, onions and cabbage which was given to the needy in the community.

   This year, however, we are a bigger group of twelve people after the recruitment of new members from the first year class. We have now started a bigger garden in the community and we cooperatively work with the community members who have been inspired by the achievements of the Grow Green Itsuseng team. Our team believes in three values which are commitment, team work and excellence which are crucial and very vital to the success of our work. This ensures the dedication of each member of the team to the task in question. Moreover, at the same time we all work together as one and aiming at achieving the same goal with have excellent results. This does not only build our team but ensures the involvement of everyone in the team in decision making and implementation process. Our vision is to create change rather than giving charity. We believe that change comes from within oneself. We therefore want to inspire and motivate the community members to become independent and self sustainable. Together, we can make a big difference
